especially attractive because there is less possibility of the
mind wondering away from the mantra, each time it is recited. We
give here some famous short mantrās
Shiva
Om namah shivāya
[Om, salutation to Shiva.]
This is called panchākshari
since it has 5 syllables.
Hari
om namo nārāyaņāya
[Om, salutation to Nārāyaņa]
It is called aşhţākşhari
since it has eight syllables
Sri Krişhņa
om namo bhagavate vāsudevāya
(Om, salutation to the Lord, the son
of Vāsudeva)
Sri Nārāyaņa
om namo nārāyaņāya

(He am I)
