Introduction ( Mandala 1, Sukta 90)
This hymn declares that madhu or the Delight of Existence is the key note behind all manifestation. For the seeker of Truth both the physical wind and the psychic breath, prana, blow sweetly; The Waters or the Divine Energies flow sweetly; Similarly the night, the dawn, the Earth and Heaven. This is the seed of the doctrine of bliss, madhu-vidya described in the Brihad Aranyaka Upanishads.

Translation
By straight paths may Varuna lead us,
and may Mitra, the wise, lead us,
and puissant Aryaman, with Devas.
(1)
They are the granters of riches,
undeceivable; with their might
they protect their Laws evermore.
(2)

May they grant us their shelter,
Immortals to mortal men,
turning our enemies away.

(3)
To paths leading to happiness
may adorable Indra, Maruts,
Pushan and Bhaga direct us.
(4)
And our hymns with the milk libation.
Pushan, Vishnu and Fast-runners !
make us possessors of bliss.
(5)
Sweet blows the breeze for him who lives
by Law, rivers for him pour sweets.
So may the plants be sweet to us !
(6)
Pleasant be our nights, pleasant dawns,
and pleasant the dust of the earth !
Pleasant for us be Father Heaven !
(7)
May the lordly forest tree give us
pleasure ! pleasant be the sun,
and pleasant the rays of light !
(8)
Gracious be Mitra to us and
gracious Varuna, Aryaman.
Gracious be Indra, Brihaspati,
and gracious Vishnu of wide stride.
