89) |

Next are hymns 89 and 90,
both from first mandala by
rishi Gotama
of the family of Rahugana. They are
addresses to the collectivity of all
the Gods or devās,
vishve
devah.
The 89th hymn is a prayer
or call for all the happy impulsions from all sides to come to all
of us; May the powers of the Gods manifest in us; May we obtain
and enjoy all the psychological and spiritual felicities in all of
our lives having positive and loving thoughts towards all.
Mantras in this Sūktā beginning with
bhadram
karnebhih are used as invocations in the
Mundaka and other Upanishads.

Translation |
May noble wisdom come to us from all
sides,
undeceived, unhindered, overflowing,
so that the Devas may always
help us onward,
unceasing in their care, our Guardians day by day. |
(1) |
Ours be the blissful love of
Devas who desire
straight life ; about us may the grace
of Devas lie.
We have approached the Devas for
friendship; may they
prolong our life to the.full, so
that we may live. |
(2) |
And we invoke them with an ancient hymn,
invoke
Bhaga, Mitra,
Aditi and friendly
Daksha,
and Aryaman,
Varuna, Soma and
Asvins.
May the gracious Sarasvati grant us
happiness. |
(3) |
And may Vata
waft us healthful medicament,
and so may Mother Earth, and so Father
Heaven,
and so the health-giving stones that press the Soma.
May Asvins, meditated on by us,
listen. |
(4) |
The supreme lord of all that moves and that
stands still,
The Inspirer of the spirit, we call to our help,
that he, Pushan, the Defender,
the Guardian,
unfailing, may increase our wealth and
bring us bliss. |
(5) |
Blessing on us be of far-famed
Indra,
blessing on us of
Pushan, the all-knowing,
blessing of Tarkshya with his
wheel's rim unworn;
and his blessing
Brihaspati bestow on us! |
(6) |
May Maruts, Sons
of Prishni, on the spotted steeds,
who move in glory and visit our
assemblies,
whose tongue is Agni --- Sages
shining like the sun,
and all the Devas
come here with their aid for us. |
(7) |
May we, Devas!
bear with our ears what is good,
and, holy Ones! see
with our eyes what is good,
and praising you with steady limbs and body
enjoy the divinely bestowed term of
life. |
(8) |
Sure, a hundred autumns lie before us,
Devas,
within which you bring our bodies to
decay,
to the state when our sons become our fathers;
break not in the middle the course of
our life. |
(9) |
Aditi is heaven,
Aditi mid-region,
Aditi is Mother, is Father, is Son,
Aditi is all the Devas, and the
five peoples,
Aditi is all that's born, that will be
born. |
